Design

Authentic and yet eclectic.

We created a unique and special place. A single escape where guests can experience a more genuine side of Moroccan life.
The creation of Kasbah Bab Ourika started in 2004 when its English founder discovered the the hilltop site and started the construction of the main buildings and the planting of the surrounding gardens. It took 5 years to realise the current Kasbah. The project involved a large team of local artisans to create access to the site.

Immerse in the beauty of the Natural suroundings ...

The fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, the use of natural materials, and the deep connection to the surrounding landscape make it a place of true cultural and architectural significance,

The initial construction was dependant on Donkey transport to supply water and materials.
The entry road was dug by hand . Wells were found and a system to pump water more than 500 metres uphill to holding tanks created alongside the Kasbah.
The project is ongoing with the addition of the garden rooms and waterfalls, the kitchen gardens, 5 rooms Villa and lately the 11 rooms Retreat over the past few years.

The plans were mostly changed as the works evolved ... To have the beauty of the surroundings always accessible became a necessity...
The goal was the use and respect for Moroccan tradition and the local craftsmanship mixing it with curated furniture, Berber antiques, Vintage rugs and fabrics, eclectic objects sourced in the local flea markets as well as pieces of the owner private art collection.

It had taken courage to take on such an enormous project.
The founder chose a hilltop in the Ourika Valley,
far from the tarred roads, the safety of the busy populated city, away from the normal tourist attractions of Marrakech - the souks, restaurants, etc.

Stephen and Beatriz who designed the interiors created a unique and special escape, a pure place where guests can experience a more genuine side of Moroccan life and the life of the Berber villages. The feeling of the Kasbah is striking, it has a powerful presence to it, a living element.

The idea was to build something that doesn't feel like a newly constructed site, more like an old soul, a Kasbah that had been there for years, overseeing the villages below, perched on its own hill standing guard over the Mountains a true reflection of its surroundings.

The design of Kasbah Bab Ourika places great emphasis on the natural environment. This is evident in the generous use of large windows and open-air spaces that seamlessly blend the interior with the outdoors. The Kasbah's gardens and courtyards feature an abundance of fragrant plants and trees, creating a tranquil oasis where guests can relax and rejuvenate. It aims to be a ode to Morocco and its people, it's history,
It's rich diversity! And a reflexion of our love of the Country !

In summary, Kasbah Bab Ourika's architecture and interiors celebrate the timeless beauty of Moroccan design, culture and craftsmanship.

“A recipe has no soul. You as the cook must, bring soul to the recipe. And I love doing it!”
